| Background |
New Doha International Airport Steering Committee (NDIASC) plans to develop the New Doha International Airport (NDIA) to replace the existing Doha international airport. NDIA will be constructed on a 22 million sq.m. area east to the existing Doha airport and will require extensive land reclamation where 60 million cu.m. of fill will be reclaimed from the sea and used to create the site. The new airport will be 12 times larger than the currently existing airport. Once completed, the new airport, which will be able to accommodate the Airbus A380, will have a capacity of 50 million passengers/year and will handle 2 million t/y of cargo. It will also enable 320,000 aircrafts takeoffs and landings per year. Initially, the airport was designed to be developed in 3 phases however, phase 1 and 2 were combined together. NDIA is divided into 4 construction packages. Area 1 includes airfield earthwork, paving and drainage. Area 2 including Air Traffic Control (ATC) systems and site utilities. Area 3 including airport terminal facilities. Area 4 including airport support buildings and landscaping. BechtelBechtel is the EPCM and master planning consultant. Scott Wilson is the design consultant. |
