| Background |
The JV of Manazel Real Estate DevelopmentManazel Real Estate Development and United Group HoldingsUnited Group Holdings plans to develop Building Materials City, a mixed use development located between Musaffah and Mohamad Bin Zayed City in Abu Dhabi. The project will be developed over an area of 230,000 sq.m. and will consist office towers, residential towers, a shopping mall, a hotel and a podium. The project will be developed in 5 phases: Phase 1 covers the construction of a shopping mall and the Prestige Towers. Phase 2 covers the construction of 32 residential towers and 3-level parking. Phase 3 covers the construction of 17 commercial towers and underground podium parking. Phase 4 covers the construction of a hotel and phase 5 is the landscaping for the surrounding area. The city will be dedicated for construction material and decoration companies as well as real estate developers, engineering and consulting firms. The project also features a building materials exchange, the first in the Middle East. In December 2010, prestige towers completed In September 2010, work on the residential towers resumed. In H1 2010, the residential towers were put on hold. In November 2008, the Design Build contract for 17 office towers and a podium was awarded to FibrexFibrex . In June 2008, the infrastructure contract and the construction contract for the mall and two office towers (Prestige Towers) including the MEP works was awarded to the JV of FibrexFibrex and Thinet Emirates. In November 2006, the design contract was awarded to Ehaf Consulting Engineers and the engineering contract was awarded to Jacobs EngineeringJacobs Engineering . |
