1548 GMT [Dow Jones] FTSE 100 closes 0.8% higher at 5687.73, with hopes of further BOE asset purchases reinforced by weak UK construction PMI data. Barclays ends down 0.8% after a volatile day, following the resignation of both its CEO and COO. "The UK index now looks primed for an attack at the 5700 level, where it will need to come through near-term resistance if bullish momentum is to be established after three days of consecutive gains," says Joshua Raymond at City Index. Wednesday, UK services PMI data are due at 0830 GMT. Overall, the next session is likely to be pretty quiet and volumes low as US markets are closed for Independence Day.
