| Background |
Qatar Railways Development CompanyQatar Railways Development Company (QRDC) plans to build the Doha Metro Network, a 300 Km metro rail network covering Greater Doha.
The railway will link all major Olympic venues, villages and the hotels district. It will also be linked to the New Doha International Airport and the Doha Port.
Doha Metro Network is made up of 4 lines and 100 stations. The 4 lines are the Red, Gold, Green and Blue lines. The Red Line will run from New Doha International Airport to West Bay. The Gold Line will run on an east-west route linking New Doha International Airport and Airport City with industrial areas in the west of the city. The Green Line will run from the industrial areas in the south through the center of Doha and to the Education City. The Blue Line will follow the coast road and run from New Doha International Airport to West Bay, the Pearl and Lusail with a spur linking up to the Education City.
The project will be implemented in 6 phases including 100 stations. Phase 1 will include 22 Km of underground tunnels and 15 underground stations. Scope of other phases not revealed yet.
The project is part of Qatar Rail Network Program aiming to integrate Qatar's various planned railways into a comprehensive and consolidated national railway system.
The JV of Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment CompanyQatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company and Deutsche Bahn International is the conceptual design and supervision consultant. |

20 February 2012 was the bids submission deadline for the PMC contract for phase 1.
In December 2011, the PMC contract for the Doha metro was awarded to Turner and Townsend.
On 25 September 2011, companies submitted their EOIs for the DB contract for phase 1 including the underground and elevated civil works (delayed from 11 September 2011).
In July 2011, QRDC invited companies to submit their EOIs for the DB contract of phase 1 of the metro (including underground and civil works).
In February 2011, companies were prequalified for the preliminary design consultancy contract.
On 9 November 2010, bidders submitted their pre-qualification proposals for the preliminary design consultancy contract.
In October 2010, the RFQ for the preliminary design consultancy contract was issued.
In September 2010, the conceptual design was ongoing.
In June 2010, the construction of the first underground metro station started.
