Muscat: Preparatory work for the new five star Muscat Hills Intercontinental Hotel Resort and Spa commenced on Wednesday.

This includes hoarding and site access gate, levelling of ground to receive building foot print soon.

The proposed duration of the project is up to end of December 2018. With Oman's tourism sector witnessing a strong growth, the Muscat Hills Intercontinental Hotel Resort and Spa is the new addition to the booming hospitality sector.

The hotel will feature about 250 guest rooms, leisure facilities with swimming pools and spa facilities with enhanced club house, gymnasium and treatment rooms, restaurants, a ballroom and fully equipped meeting facilities and enhanced business services.

The concept to develop a hotel within a prestigious 18 holes golf resort located in the "new downtown" area of Muscat was at the forefront of the original planning.

Residents, however, are worried. "Right now there is too much dust and noise pollution outside the property and we don't know how much problems this construction work will create inside the complex ," a resident who lives in Muscat Hills said.
