The Tunisian Human Rights League (French: LTDH) expressed, Thursday, its refusal in principle of the draft law on economic and financial reconciliation which will be discussed shortly by the general legislation commission at the House of People's Representatives.

In a statement, the league estimates that the draft law is unable to resolve the socio-economic problems the country is facing, calling the general legislation commission to withdraw it out of respect to the Revolution martyrs and wounded.

LTDH expresses surprise at launching a debate on this draft law though a large part of the civil society and the political class are opposed to it.

"The draft law on reconciliation is against the Constitution's general provisions," the league warned, accusing that it grants advantages to those who had stolen the country's riches and violated rights.

According to LTDH, the draft law risks to impede the transitional justice process provided for by the Constitution which aims to reveal the truth about corruption. A corruption that has weakened the country's economic system during decades and provoked human tragedies.

The league criticised the reconciliation measures taken without permanent or independent control which may further favour corruption in the country.
