Muscat: Keeping their projects eco- friendly, Muriya Tourism Development is all set to encourage the green movement as Bronze Sponsor at the Gulf Eco Conference 2013.

"We are pleased to confirm our support for the Gulf Eco Conference 2013. Past activities as well as plans for future projects of Muriya have indicated that the company is a strong advocator of positive environmental protection measures. In addition to making our mark economically in the tourism industry, we make twice the effort to keep environmental concerns at the forefront of each project we undertake and add to the beautification and protection of Oman" says Christa Diener, Senior Director Design, Engineering and Planning Department.

Some pro-environmental initiatives include Muriya's ITC project marinas being built inland to prevent land reclamation by the sea.

Muriya's Mooring Buoys campaign which saw the company donating 12 mooring buoys to be deployed in certain areas of Oman, under the supervision of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs will aid in the protection of the local coral reef.

The Salalah Beach Project is the only tropical Gulf retreat to include a green house with 50,000 plants to be planted as the project goal. More than 1000 Coconut Palm trees were planted on the beach till now.

The Jebel Sifah Project is focusing on arid landscaping to protect the existing landscaping features like the dry Wadis and the existing desert trees. A nursery was established to propagate arid plants from the Sifa region which will be used in the Landscaping design.

On both sites Muriya built waste water recycling plants and the recycled water will be used for irrigation.

In Jebel Sifah an on-site recycling plant will be installed to recycle mainly PVC, paper and glass.

The architectural design was taking care to execute double walls as part of building structure as well as special windows to reduce AC consumption. For the high demand of hot water in the hotels Solar Panels for hot water production were installed on the roof of the Sifawy Boutique Hotel and Juwaira hotel.

Currently under development Muriya's As Sodah Island Project will involve an environmental friendly sustainable infrastructure and a Reed Bed sewage treatment plant.
