King: Two-state solution is key to solving Palestinian-Israeli conflict

Amman, Nov. 29 (Petra)

His Majesty King Abdullah II said that the two-state solution which enjoys international consensus is the basis for ending the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and achieving comprehensive peace in the Middle East.

In a letter to Chairman of the Committee on the Exercise on the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People Abdou Salam Diallo, the king urged the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and call on all parties to adhere to the two-state solution and return to the negotiating table to address all final status issues before everyone loses this precious opportunity.

The two-state solution, he said should lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital that fulfills aspirations of the Palestinian people.

His Majesty said in his letter which coincides with the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, that the recent Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip was a dangerous threat to the security and stability of the Middle East and the future of its peoples.

"This highlights the need for concerted international and regional efforts to maintain the truce between the Palestinians and Israelis and help the Palestinians to overcome the hard living conditions in Gaza, which Israeli aggression exacerbated," he added.

The King said that Jordan and the Arab and Islamic countries are committed to bringing about comprehensive peace that contributes to achieving security, stability and prosperity for all peoples of the region.
