AMMAN, 26th March, 2017 (WAM) -- The foundation stone for the training city project for "Jordan's Armed Forces - The Arab Army", was laid here in a ceremony on Sunday, with support from the UAE.

The project is dedicated by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan, and the Jordanian people as well.

The project, which will be funded and implemented by the UAE in accordance with the latest standards, is located in the east of Zarqa Governorate. It also includes the construction of 99 residential buildings with 1032 apartments for officers and personnel of the Jordanian Armed Forces in another location in Zarqa.

The opening ceremony was attended by Staff Lt. General Mahmoud Freihat, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces, Bilal Rabie Bilal Al Bodour, UAE Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Brig. Ahmed Jassim Al Suwaidi, UAE Military Attache in Amman, and a number of senior UAE and Jordanian military officers.

The project aims to establish a joint camp for training schools for the Jordanian Armed Forces to gather them in one location in a comprehensive and distinguished training city.

The city will be built on 1170 dunams of land area and include seven training schools designed by the UAE Command of Military Works, in accordance with the latest engineering standards, to ensure a high level of administrative, technical, security and recreational services for all schools. It will also include classrooms, laboratories, fields and integrated infrastructure of electricity, water, communications, roads, yards, fences and gates.

Freihat and senior Jordanian military officers extended their thanks and appreciation to the UAE's leadership, government and people for this generous donation, which reflects strong fraternal relations and deep historic ties between the two countries. They also stressed that the UAE is a source of charity and peace.
