Image Nation Abu Dhabi, a UAE production house, will co-finance and executive produce an untitled Denzel Washington and Colin Farrell legal drama from Nightcrawler director Dan Gilroy.

The project, once titled Inner City, is the first to be funded by the strategic partnership between Image Nation and the China International Communication Centre. The partnership, announced in November, focuses primarily on investing in commercial film and television coming out of Hollywood and China.

“This first production is exactly the calibre of entertainment we intend to continue to produce,” said Michael Garin, CEO of Image Nation Abu Dhabi, in a press release.

The project is currently shooting in Los Angeles. Washington plays Californian attorney Roman Israel, who climbs the ranks at his law firm after his partner’s death. He takes on a case with hefty repercussions.

Image Nation and CICC will join Cross Creek Pictures and Macro as co-financiers.

“We are honoured to work with some of the biggest names in the industry on our next exciting international project,” said Ben Ross, head of narrative film and television at Image Nation.

“As with all our international projects, this film will help to subsidies and build our local industry here in Abu Dhabi — creating learning opportunities for local talent to work on world-class productions.”

Image Nation also announced a three-year production pact with producers Roy Lee and Steven Schneider to produce dark genre films.

Upcoming productions include a modern retelling of Benji, a horror-thriller titled Prey, and the narrative television series Justice.
