ABU DHABI, 17th April, 2017 (WAM) -- A theatrical performance of Shakespeares Macbeth is being enacted with an all-female cast as part of the Cultural Collaboration programme between the UAE and the UK taking place throughout 2017.

The show, produced by the UAE Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development in partnership with the British Council, will tour three emirates over three weekends. It will visit Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Ajman, and will feature dedicated sessions both at schools and at the British Council Teaching Centres at 6 p.m. on May 1st in Abu Dhabi and on May 2nd in Dubai.

Rather than the traditional stage-seating scenario, the play provides an immersive theatrical experience with scenes happening simultaneously, with the audience allowed to roam around the space and engage with the cast. According to organisers, the show blends the original story and text of Macbeth with todays contemporary world.

Yasser Al-Gergawi, Director of Events Department at the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development, said that the show, which is under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, comes as an outcome of the UAE-British cultural creative collaboration programme. Al-Gergawi added that the interactive nature of the play mainly aims at audience communication, thus introducing a new kind of theatre to the Arab world.

Gavin Anderson, Country Director of British Council UAE, said, "We are delighted that the UAE tour of Constellation Theatres Macbeth is taking place as part of the UK/UAE 2017 Year of Creative Collaboration.

"Creativity and innovation are at the heart of the year of culture programme, and with its all-female cast and roving presentation, this unique production will bring audiences and performers together creating new perspectives around their experiences," he added.
