Muscat: An Omani national was sentenced to two years in jail and fined 500 riyals for insulting female employees at the Public Authority for Television and Radio (PATR).

The Muscat Primary Court has also ordered the defendant, also a PATR employee, to pay 2,000 riyals to one of the female employees for insulting her dignity. The incident took place last August when the defendant put up flyers in the parking lot of the Public Authority for Television and Radio, insulting female employees. The accused was an employee at the same authority.

CCTV surveillance cameras showed the defendant putting up the flyers in the parking lot and he later confessed to the crime. Article 269 of the Omani penal law stipulates that anyone insulting the dignity of others in any way, can be jailed for up to two years in prison and slapped with a minimum 1,000 riyals fine.
