Oman plans the construction of a new transport and logistics infrastructure: a modern railway network, for freight / passenger with future plans for high speed rail.  Meanwhile, the construction timeline for GCC Railway has been pushed back by three years till 2021 for the project’s completion, reports quoting UAE’s Minister of Infrastructure, Abdullah Belhaif al Nuaimi, said recently. He reportedly said that the decision to shift the deadline to 2021 from 2018 was taken at a meeting between GCC transport ministers in April. Panelists at Oman Outlook 2016 said though the railway project has slowed down due to economic crisis, it will be still beneficial and bring in seamless connectivity and reduce the dependence on road cargo movement in the future immensely.
