Dubai: Destination Dubai 2020, a two-day conference that will highlight the plans and developments that will help Dubai’s growth over the next decade, starts on Tuesday in Dubai’s JW Marriott Marquis hotel.

“Everything in the economy will be bigger ahead of Expo 2020, [such as a] bigger real estate sector,” Andrew Davies, head of conference production at Meed, the organiser of the conference, said.

The conference will start with a keynote session by Helal Al Merri, director general of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM). The department on Sunday announced the initiative to have a new body, called the Dubai Corporation of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM), to promote and market Dubai.

According to Al Merri, there is a need to continue to develop and enhance the tourism and trade marketing of Dubai in the lead-up to 2020, when the emirate expects to attract 20 million visitors.

The conference will also have a session that discusses the masterplan for Dubai World Central (DWC). Other sessions will highlight the effect of Expo 2020 on the UAE and initiatives to develop Dubai’s financial services in order to attract investors from emerging markets.

Destination Dubai 2020 will bring together public and private sector organisations.

Visitors must pay $3,000 (Dh11,019) to attend the conference.
