Thirteen Emirati shorts and features will premiere at Dubai International Film Festival (Diff), which runs between December 6 and 13.

Aisha Al Zaabi will return to Diff with her feature Ghafah about three generations of Emirati women, while Nujoom Al Ghanem returns with another documentary, Sharp Tools, about influential and controversial artist Hassan Sharif.

Waleed Al Shehhi returns with Dimmed Light, a short about an extinguished wick and a broken lantern, while Ahmad Hasan Ahmad brings his short Wudu to the table, about two siblings trying to get along under the same roof.

Filmmaker Abdul Aziz Al Mannaei will make his debut with Goldfish, about the multicultural nature of Dubai. Abdullah Al Hemairi will share his self-starring short, Sarmad, while Obaid Al Hmoudi screens Match, Mohammad Al Hammadi screens The Remaining Time, Abdullah Al Junaibi screens Camera, Yaser Al Neyadi screens both Watermelon Club and Escape, and Ahmad Al Tunaiji screens Arasian, which will follow a half-Emirati, half-Filipino protagonist.

Abdullah Hasan Ahmad, who last year won the $100,000 (Dh367,500) IWC Filmmaker Award, will present his film Birth, supported by Enjaaz. It tells the single-day story of an Emirati family living in a mountain village.
