Dubai, UAE - Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has made significant progress on the supply, extension and commisioning of the 27km major water pipeline along the Jebel Ali to Al Hebab Road. The project is worth AED 185 million. This supports DEWA’s strategic plan to improve the efficiency and reliability of its water network to cope with growing demand and increased water flow in Dubai.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, said that DEWA is working to improve the efficiency of its operations, and increase water flow to meet the growing demand for water in various parts of Dubai, to support the sustainable development of the Emirate.

“To date, 14.5km, which is 46% of the project, has been completed. The project includes the extension of 27km of 1,200-millimetre-diameter glass reinforced epoxy (GRE) main water pipelines, to increase water flow along the Jebel Ali to Al Hebab road to meet increasing demand of water in Nakhli, Al Aweer, Al Qudra, and Dubai International Endurance City, in addition to projects along the Al Ain road. This also includes remote monitoring and control systems to effectively control the major water transmission networks all the time. This is done through automatic valves that can be remote-controlled from the control centre, to easily detect breakdowns and quickly fix them to reduce water losses in the network,” said Al Tayer.

“The date expected for the completion of the project, according to the planned programme, is May 2018,” added Al Tayer.
