Bahrain's Ministry of Housing (MoH) is expected to award the main contract for its $55 million (20.8 million Bahraini dinars) infrastructure, utilities and bridges project in Al Madina Al Shamaliya Islands 10, 11 and 12 by fourth quarter 2017, according to a source close to the project.
Al Madina Al Shamaliya (AMAS) is a mixed-use development spanning 163.5 hectares of reclaimed land off the northern coast of Bahrain. The project comprises 5,519 apartments, 337 villas and 194 townhouses.
"The final bid submission date is 12 July 2017 and the contract is expected to be awarded by September 2017," the source said.
The project is scheduled for completion by end of third quarter 2018, he added.
Terna Contracting Co, Nass Contracting Company and Combined Group Contracting Company are among the companies prequalified to tender for the contract, another source said without providing the total number of prequalified bidders or their names.
Mott MacDonald is the supervision consultant for the project on the ministry's behalf.
In a September 2016 press statement, the company said the scope of work includes site grading, highways, storm water drainage, electrical, potable water, sewage and irrigation networks, telecommunication ducting and roadside landscaping. Two vehicular bridges connecting Islands 9 and 10, as well as one vehicular bridge and one pedestrian bridge connecting Islands 11 and 12 would be built, the statement added.
AECOM has been engaged to provide the master planning, detailed design and cost management services.
