JEDDAH: Around 92,000 travel bans have been issued since last November, according to official statistics.

Thanks to the electronic connection system between the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of the Interior, represented by National Information Center (NIC), nearly 5 million operations have been carried out during this period.

The operations covered 12 services and reflected the relative accelerated work pace in this field.

The services included reporting judicial orders, suspending the services for bill dodgers, travel bans and print verifications.

ID verifications topped data operations carried out by the Ministry of Justice and the NIC with 2,874,193 cases, followed by 1,776,099 print verifications, while service suspensions numbered at 91,739.

The statistics also showed that the Ministry of Justice sent to the NIC notifications of ban liftings after their reasons had disappeared.

Among these lifted were 20,832 travel bans, 1,794 "to be arrested" notifications, and 6,951 judicial order reports. In addition, 4,998,903 SMSs confirming judicial orders were sent to the NIC during the period from November through July.

Commenting on these statistics, a source at Ministry of Justice said the electronic connection system enables judges to review, modify and endorse the rulings before sending it electronically to the Ministry of the Interior for implementation.
