JEDDAH: The Ministry of Labor and Social Development's branch in the Baha region rushed to investigate a complaint of 74 expats working at a construction company which had delayed the payment of their wages for nearly four months.

The ministry compelled the company to settle dues of the workers who had gone on strike over unpaid wages after labor inspectors met with parties involved in the dispute to look into the case.

Ibrahim Al-Zolfan, director general of the ministry's branch in the Baha region, said inspectors sat down with the affected workers and heard their demands in the presence of a representative of the company.

The director general said the company pledged to transfer wages to the workers' bank accounts within 15 days, failing which, it will face penalties as per the Labor Law and various labor regulations.

The stranded workers received their full entitlements last Friday, and the company remains liable to pay for flights home for those who requested repatriation, Al-Zolfan said.

He stressed that the company ensured in writing that it will not delay wages again for any reason, as well as pledged to abide by the stipulations mentioned in the Labor Law that protect the rights of workers.
