Abu Dhabi: A total of 16 neighbourhood parks and five playgrounds will be constructed in the capital’s Khalifa City suburb next year, the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has announced.

The public recreational facilities will add to eight other parks that have been completed this year for the use of residents, and their development is part of the municipality’s plans to enhance living standards in the suburbs.

The announcement came at a public forum held in Khalifa City, where municipal officials met with residents to discuss their concerns and to outline upcoming developmental projects.

A number of development projects are being carried out at present in Khalifa City, including some that have created more traffic entry and exit points for the suburb. In addition, the municipality has named 320 internal streets while installing 5,193 building number signs and 686 street sign poles.

At the forum, residents called for more traffic access to and from Khalifa City to ease the persistent congestion. They also highlighted the need for more public recreational facilities and public schools. In addition, some residents asked municipal officials to set up more speed breakers in residential streets.

The shortage of mosques, retail centres and petrol stations in the vicinity of Khalifa City was also raised as pressing concerns that need to be addressed.

Municipal officials noted these concerns as suggestions for future development.
