South Africa Confirms Cessation Of Iranian Oil Imports

Tseliso Maqubela, Deputy Director-General of South Africas Ministry of Energy, told reporters on 6 August that the country had not received any crude oil from Tehran since June. He said that South African refiners imported around 286,000 tons of Iranian oil in April and again in May, but placed no further orders. The EU sanctions are creating obstacles for those imports to come in, Mr Maqubela added. South Africa previously covered around 35% of its oil import requirements from Iran. South Africas Revenue Service reported that since June the country has substituted Iranian oil imports with deliveries from Saudi Arabia, Angola and Nigeria. South Africa imports around 80% of its petroleum needs.
