Turkmenistan Restructures Energy And Industry Ministry
Turkmenistans President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov has decided to divide the countrys Ministry of Energy and Industry into two separate institutions, official news agency TDH
announced on 8 July. The new Energy Minister Myrat Artykov is charged with undertaking the large scale modernization of the existing power generating facilities, creation of new ones and increasing exports of electricity. The Ministry of Industry takes over responsibility for the construction sector from the Ministry of Building Materials Industry, which has been abolished, and will also oversee the engineering industries.
The oil and gas industry will continue to be handled at the deputy prime ministerial level. Yashgeldy Kakayev is responsible for the management of Turkmenistans foreign energy relations, including the handling of international investors; and Baymyrad Hojamuhamedov is responsible for the management of all domestic aspects of the Turkmen oil and gas industry (MEES, 4 June). © Copyright MEES 2012.
