Saudi LPG Prices Respond To Slow Propane Demand, Support For Butane

Saudi Aramco on 1 May announced its contract prices for LPG deliveries to customers for May. The prices for propane and butane were reduced by $180/ton and $100/ton respectively to $810/ton for propane and $895/ton for butane. “The propane contract price was in line with the swaps values immediately prior to the announcement,” Walter M Hart, Senior Consultant at Houston-based Purvin & Gertz told MEES. “The propane contract price dropped by $180/ton relative to April and reflects a further adjustment of the propane market price to meet the slow propane demand expected for this time of year, as well as replenished inventories. At $85/ton, the butane contract price premium over propane is within the range of the butane price premiums for the spot CFR prices in Japan over the past few weeks. While propane demand is languishing, butane pricing is being supported by petrochemical consumption in East Asia, and by continued residential/commercial demand in the warmer climes of South and Southeast Asia. The tight butane market in the Mediterranean also adds support for a higher butane contract price premium.”
