Japan’s Crude Imports Rise 9.25% In March To 4.209Mn B/D
Japanese crude oil imports averaged 4.209mn b/d in March, according to monthly import data released by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) on 27 April. This is 9.25% above the February import figure of 3.853mn b/d and an increase of 11.28% over the February 2011 crude import figure of 3.783mn b/d. March imports from the Middle East averaged 3.452mn b/d, up by 7.72% from the February average of 3.205mn b/d but only 0.44% above the year-on-year average of 3.437mn b /d in March 2011. Saudi Arabia continues to be Japan’s main crude supplier, delivering an average of 1.375mn b/d in March compared to 1.135mn b/d in February, followed by the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait. Crude imports from Iran declined to an average of 270,675 b/d in March, compared to 305,784 b/d in February and 425,366 b/d in March 2011.
