Egyptian Gas Pipeline Targeted Again

Egypt’s gas pipeline infrastructure in the Sinai has been targeted yet again by bombers despite the recent deployment of some 150 troops in the area sent there specifically by the government to improve security. The pipeline, operated by the Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO), supplies the Arab Gas Pipeline (AGP) to Jordan and the offshore al-'Arish-Ashkelon gas pipeline to Israel. This is the 14th attack on the pipeline since February 2011. The pipeline has not been operational since the last bombing in March (MEES, 12 March). Media reports say the attack occurred in the al-Midan region of al-'Arish.
