Gazprom And Socar To Expand Gas Trade In 2012

Russia’s Gazprom and Azeri state firm Socar signed an agreement on 23 January for the doubling of Russian imports from Azerbaijan to 3 bcm in 2012. The agreement was signed by Socar President Rovnag Abdullayev and Gazprom Chairman Alexei Miller on the sidelines of a Russian-Azeri summit in the Black Sea resort of Sochi. Mr Miller told reporters: “We are doubling the purchase of Azerbaijani gas for the second year running…reflecting the mutual desire to further increase the volumes of hydrocarbon supplies.” Russia imported 1 bcm from Azerbaijan in 2010 and almost 1.6 bcm in 2011.
