UAE President Shaikh Zayid bin Sultan Al Nuhayyan on 4 June issued the state budget law for the current year, 2002, which puts revenue at Dh20.99bn ($5.71bn) against total expenditure of Dh23.16bn ($6.30bn), leaving a deficit of Dh 2.17bn ($590mn). The deficit represents a 2.7% decrease on the previous year. Both expenditure and revenue are up slightly this year compared with 2001, by 2.2% and 2.7% respectively.

The report on the issuing of the 2002 budget law was carried by the official Emirates News Agency (WAM)
and gave few details. As for budget allocations, it mentioned only that the Federal National Council would receive Dh41.3mn, the University of the UAE Dh760mn, a group of higher technical colleges Dh545mn, the Zayid University Dh210mn, the Institute of Administrative Development Dh12.8mn, the Public Information Authority Dh19.6mn, the Federal Authority for the Environment Dh5.7mn, the Public Authority for Youth and Sports Guidance Dh84.6mn and the Federal Electricity and Water Authority Dh858mn. |
