Consulting and engineering firm Egis has acquired majority interest in Hong Kong based architectural firm 10 Design.

France-based Egis offers engineering, project structuring and operations services globally, and is involved in major projects like the Riyadh Metro and Doha Metro. 10 Design provides design services, from individual buildings to cities across all sectors including corporate, retail, hospitality, residential, cultural and education.

The merger would create “an integrated design group with a global capability,” according to a joint statement issued by the two companies. It said 10 Design’s “leadership will remain unchanged and will be linked to the larger Egis Group by a board dedicated to strategic synergies.”

The Hong Kong firm’s Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regional office is based in Dubai.

“10 Design has had a Dubai office and permanent presence here since 2012,” the firm’s CEO David Pringle told Thomson Reuters Projects via email.

Notable projects designed by the company include the Seventh Heaven and Ashjar developments by Al Barari and Swiss Property La Reserve on Dubai Canal, both of which had secured the Best Residential Development at Cityscape Global Awards in their respective years.

“Additionally, we have designed and delivered signature waterfront developments of Bluewaters Residences and Al Seef Phases 1 and 4 by Meraas with several more developments currently under design,” said Pringle.

When asked how the merger will impact the company’s business in the region, Pringle said: “Dubai is 10 DESIGN’s regional office whilst Egis has a huge presence across Europe, Africa, and Southeast Asia. The synergies between the two firms will undoubtedly have positive results for 10 Design in the MENA.”

“Meanwhile, we plan to maintain and continue develop relationships with our existing partner consultants in the region and to combine skills with Egis in opportunities where they are appropriate and geographically relevant.”

In 2015, Egis had acquired 51 percent of Dubai-headquartered project and construction management firm Projacs.
