The Cabinet has approved a draft decision on setting up a committee to monitor the activities of fuel stations and warehouses in the country.
In this regard, the regular weekly meeting of the Cabinet on Wednesday gave its nod to amending provisions of Decision No 73 of 2014 on establishing the committee, the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

The session was chaired by HE the Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani at the Emiri Diwan.

The draft decision includes an amendment of the panel’s name to be the “permanent committee on monitoring fuel stations and warehouses”.

Established at the Ministry of Energy and Industry, the committee is chaired by a representative of Qatar Petroleum and has members from the entities concerned.

The committee will be tasked with putting in place specifications and standards for all fuel stations and warehouses across the state, deciding on the type of activities allowed at a station, reviewing stations and their compatibility with regulations and standards for health, safety and environment, determining the damage caused by pollution and its environmental effects, and determining the necessary requirements to upgrade and develop existing stations, QNA said.

At the outset of Wednesday’s meeting, HE the Prime Minister directed that a working team from the entities concerned be formed to develop a mechanism to follow up and implement the directives of HH the Emir, as well as an execution mechanism covering different fields for which directives or approvals have been issued.

The meeting adopted a draft co-operation agreement in the field of medical science and healthcare between the governments of Qatar and Poland, and a draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) for co-operation in the field of culture between the Qatari Ministry of Culture and Sports and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts of the Philippines.

The Cabinet also endorsed Qatar’s membership in the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation.

Additionally, the meeting took appropriate measures for ratification of an agreement for co-operation in the cultural field between the governments of Qatar and Serbia, an MoU for co-operation in the youth and sport fields between the governments of Qatar and Serbia, and a memorandum of co-operation in agriculture between the Qatari Ministry of Municipality and Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Serbia.

Further, the Cabinet took note of a report related to the outcome of the work of the National Civil Aviation Security Committee from June 14, 2016 to November 20, and approved Qatar’s national programme for civil aviation security, annexed to the report.

The meeting reviewed a memo by HE the Minister of Administrative Development and Labour and Social Affairs on the outcome of the 15th meeting of the GCC housing ministers’ committee (Riyadh - October 2016) and took the appropriate decision.
