  Business Overview
Al Futtaim Group (Al Futtaim) is one of the largest UAE-based conglomerates comprising 43 subsidiaries and associated companies across eight sectors including automotive, electronics, retail, services, overseas, insurance, industries, and real estate sectors. In addition, the company is the agent of many of the world's leading brands such as Toyota, Lexus, Chrysler, IKEAIKEALoading..., IBM, Toshiba, Panasonic, Alcatel, Hertz, Kolber to name a few.

The group, which remains a family run business, started in the 1930's as a trading enterprise and began expanding during the 1940's and 1950's in the lower gulf. Today, Al Futtaim operates in 40 countries including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar as well as Egypt. The group has also business interests in Pakistan, Singapore and Europe.

Al Futtaim's real estate and property development arm is planning to undertake a USD1 billion tourism resort in Syria. In fact, the company has launched Al Futtaim CapitalAl Futtaim CapitalLoading... to act as its investment and business development arm and lead the group's expansion locally and regionally.

Al Futtaim launched in Autumn 2006 the Dubai Festival CityDubai Festival CityLoading..., which would be the Middle East's largest privately-funded, mixed-use development project containing a golf course, the world's largest IKEAIKEALoading..., and other attractions.

The Automotive division has been experiencing and expecting continued boost as the demand for cars in the UAE benefits from the country's booming economy. Consequently, sales of Honda cars hit record levels in 2005 with Trading Entreprises-Honda, one of Al Futtaim company, announcing record 16 per cent sales growth in 2005 from 2004.

The technology sector is expanding as well. In fact Al Futtaim TechnologiesAl Futtaim TechnologiesLoading..., part of Al Futtaim's Electronics Division, reported a sales growth of 41 per cent for 2005 compared to the 2004, driven by record demand for laptops, copiers, projectors and communication systems. Moreover, Aftron, Al Futtaim's electronics brand, based in Dubai, has set up 600 service centers in India in order to capitalize on the growing electronics market in India that is expected to reach USD40 billion by 2010. The web design and multimedia wing of GMASCO Marketing Communications, one of Al Futtaim's subsidiary, has won the 'Standard of Excellence' Award at the 9th Annual WebAward Competition, held by USA based Web Marketing Association (WMA), for the design and development of 'Toyotauae.com', Toyota's UAE web site.

In addition, Al Futtaim summer school entitled 'Life of Work' attaches students, in the process of completing their final years of education at private and government schools, to the various divisions of the Al Futtaim Group where they will receive hands-on experience and exposure to working life.

In 2006, Al Futtaim launched the USD3 billion Cairo Festival City which will be a 250,000,000 square meters retail and entertainment complex. In October 2006, the company created a USD17 million insurance company in Syria: Arab Orient Insurance Company ? Syria.

In January 2007, the group also entered the financial services sector by making joint venture agreements with HC Securities and Investment as well as GE Money; the global consumer-lending unit of General Electric Company.
