Libyan Arab Airline, the national airline of Libya, was established in 1965 as a subdivision of Kingdom of Libya Airlines - which was under foreign administration. The Libyan Arab Airlines became completely government-owned in 1975. LAA has a fleet of 32 airplanes (2 Airbus A300, 2 A310, 10 Boeing 727s, 15 Focker27, 3 Focker28.) LAA covers 24 destinations in Europe and Africa only.
LAA activity was severely affected after the UN imposed a sanction on Libya in 1992. Since 1999, when the sanction was suspended, the LAA has been trying to re-establish its name in the international market.
