In August 1997, Lydec took over the electricity and water distribution and water purification for the urban community of Casablanca, a city of more than four million inhabitants. Accroding to LYDEC's statistics, over 50% of Casablancians consume less than 260 litres of water per day and thus pay some USD0.15 per day. At the same time 60% consume less that 4 Kwh per day of electricity, equivilant to USD0.46 per day.
Between 1997 and the end of 2003, LYDEC invested a total of USD479 million to ameliorate its services and distribution network.
On July 18th 2005, LYDEC will list on the Moroccan stock exchange by offering 14% of its shares to the public.
