Located 20 kilometers south of Ras Al Khaimah city on a 1 million square meter (10.76 million square foot) facility, RAK Ceramics (RAK) became publicly listed on the
Abu Dhabi Securities MarketAbu Dhabi Securities Market
in 1998 with a total investment capital of USD250 million.
RAK produces ceramic walls and floor tiles, gres porcellanato, and sanitaryware. In Ceramics, RAK produces ceramic wall tiles, ceramic floor tiles, matching decor tiles, listellos, and pencils and cappings. In Gres Porcellanato (porcelain/vitrified tiles), RAK produces models in soluble salt, salt and pepper, and glazed covering finishes such as polished, semi polished, unpolished, rustic, stone, mosaic, travertine. In Sanitaryware, RAK produces models in wash basins (mounted as well as pedestals), water closets (WC), bidets, bathroom sets, bath tubs, shower trays, kitchen sinks, bathroom cabinets, accessories, and decorated sets.
RAK started its operations with one production line in June 1991 with an output of 5,000 square meters per day, which it has since expanded to 200,000 square meters per day of ceramic/gres porcellanato tiles by year end 2005. Moreover, 2 presses and 3 kilns are used exclusively to produce special items including decors, listellos, and skirtings. By yearend 2005, RAK's products were exported to more than 135 countries across five continents.
In 2000, RAK's first overseas tile plant commenced production in Bangladesh with a capacity of 10,000 square meters per day. RAK continued its international plant expansion into China, Sudan, Iran, Slovakia, and India in addition to expanding its plant capacity in Ras Al Khaimah . In 2004, RAK started a joint venture with Laticrete and starts production to make tile adhesives.
RAK received ISO 9001 certification in 1997, ISO 9001:1994 in 2002, and ISO 9001:2000 in 2005. RAK won the Arabian Business Company of the Year Award for the year 2004 and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Award (MRM Business Award) for industry in 2005.
