  Business Overview
The Qatar Real Estate Investment Company (Alaqaria) invests in and develops residential and commercial properties to the government, energy and commercial sectors of Qatar.

As part of its initiatives to boost commercial activities, Alaqaria established Asas Real Estate in December 2006, with a paid up capital of QAR5 million (USD1.37 million) to develop commercial properties. Through this subsidiary, the company aims to increase revenues of its commercial arm to 20% of total revenues.

Alaqaria also acquired 17% of Barwa Al Baraha CompanyBarwa Al Baraha CompanyLoading... in 2007 to develop a QAR3 billion (USD826 million) commercial and residential project in Doha. The 1.8 million sq. m property will be completed in two phases, the first to build a truck parking and maintenance facility by May 2008 and the second to build 64 residential buildings by 2010.

In January 2008, Alaqaria announced that it will establish a QAR1 billion (USD275 million) real estate company in partnership with Industries QatarIndustries QatarLoading... and Al Kout Insurance and Reinsurance Company of Kuwait. Alaqaria will own a 33% stake in the new firm, which is expected to start operations in the first quarter of 2008. Also in January 2008, the company entered into a joint venture with a number of companies, to establish an aluminum extrusion entity and to set up a manufacturing facility in Qatar.

Alaqaria issued a USD270 million Sukuk Al Musharakah in August 2006 followed by another for USD300 million, in 2007.
