  Business Overview
It is as big as they get in Morocco. With 25,000 employees and MAD23 billion (USD3 billion) in 2005 revenues, Groupe ONA is one of Morocco's largest conglomerates. As a financial and industrial holding company, ONA owns and operates a list of subsidiaries operating in various industries including distribution, financial services, mining, agribusiness, real estate, telecom, energy and utility, real estate, and information technology industries.

Tracing its routes back to 1919, the company was established as Compagnie Générale de Transport et de Tourisme (CGTT) and had stakes in the transport, mining, automobile and equipment material industries. In 1934, the company changed its name to to Omnium Nord Africain until 1989 when it adopted the Groupe ONA name.

During the early 1980's, ONA expended its activity scope by acquiring stakes in dairy products firms, banking, marine transit, chemistry and textile industries. During the early 1990's, it entered the communications, multimedia, retail distribution and real estate sectors. In 1995, ONA went public and offered 20% of its shares on the Casablanca Stock ExchangeCasablanca Stock ExchangeLoading....

The agribusiness sector accounts 50% of ONA activities with a sales turnover of MAD13.5 billion (USD1.5 billion) in 2005. Under the milk and diary products, Centrale LaitièreCentrale LaitièreLoading... produces milk with 60% market share in Morocco. CosumarCosumarLoading... is a sugar manufacturing and refining company.

ONA has other companies in the agribusiness sectors such as Lesieur CristalLesieur CristalLoading...; BimoBimoLoading... the market leader in biscuits production in Morocco with a 50% market share in 2005. Conserveries Des Cinq Oceans, MaronaMaronaLoading..., and La MagegasqueLa MagegasqueLoading... operate in the seafood industry.

In 2005, ONA's investments in the financial sector generated MAD632.5 million (USD70.2 million) in net income for the group. Subsidiaries in this sector include Attijariwafa BankAttijariwafa BankLoading..., AXA Assurance MarocAXA Assurance MarocLoading..., Agma Lahlou TaziAgma Lahlou TaziLoading... Brokerage Company.

ONA is present in the mining sector in Morocco since its establishment; in 1996, ManagemManagemLoading... took over the mining activities and contributed about MAD1.6 million (USD177,660) to the group's 2005 revenues.

ONA continued its expansion by investing in businesses with high growth potential in the telecommunication industry represented by Maroc ConnectMaroc ConnectLoading... in 1999; energy and utility through Nareva in 2005; Information technology by the establishment of Mercure.comMercure.comLoading... in 2002; and Hypermarket chains (retail) with the acquisition of MarjaneMarjaneLoading... in 1991 and AcimaAcimaLoading... supermarkets in 2001.

The Group targets a minimum of 7% growth rate in consolidated revenues for its 2008-2010 forecasts.
