The company’s primary geographical focus is the UAE, where it undertakes high-rise towers, commercial, residential and mixed-use buildings. Arabtec was awarded a AED1.6 billion (USD436 million) contract, in August 2008, to build 1,437 villas in Dubai’s Bawadi-Asmaran. In 2007 Arabtec won a contract in Qatar’s AED12.1 billion (USD3.3 billion) Al Waab City project to develop the residential and commercial property.
A planned construction contract between Arabtec, WCT Engineering (Malysia) and Meydan L.L.C. was canceled in January 2009. Meydan claimed that its joint venture partners in the AED4.7 billion (USD1.3 billion) project delayed implementation.
In keeping with its parent company’s strategy to expand into new markets, Arabtec Construction set up a SAR150 million (USD40 million) subsidiary in Saudi Arabia, in March 2009, with the
