The Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) is engaged in the production, marketing and distribution of ethylene, polyethylene, sulfur and low density polyethylene (LPDE). The company’s manufacturing facilities consist of an ethylene plant, two LDPE plants and a sulfur plant in Qatar’s Mesaieed Industrial City.

The company’s QAPCO Ethylene Expansion Plant (EP2) was built to increase capacity from 525,000 tons per year to 720,000 tons per year of ethylene. Valued at QAR694 million (USD190.6 million), EP2 was completed in August 2007.

Qapco is developing a low density Polyethylene plant in the Mesaieed Industrial City that will produce 1.2 million t/y of polyethylene, 650,000 t/y of low density polyethylene and 450,000 linear low density polyethylene. The plant, which will be completed in 2011, is valued at QAR1.4 billion (USD410 million).

The new plant will use excess ethylene feedstock from EP2 and from Qatofin’s share in Ras Laffan Olefins Cracker.
