Bahrain Air is the second national carrier to provide scheduled air transportation for passengers, after Gulf AirGulf Air. Established in July 2007, the privately owned airline began operating in February 2008 as a low-cost carrier, serving premium and economy classes.

Bahrain Air has three AirbusAirbus A320?s, as of February 2008, will fly 140 times a week to 13 destinations across the MENA region and other Asian destinations. The airline has a three-year plan to steadily increase its number of aircrafts to four by the end of 2008, then again to seven by 2009 and finally to ten by 2010. The airline expects this will result in a 57% and 9% growth for 2009 and 2010, respectively.

As part of its short-term strategy, the airline plans to undertake an IPO in early 2009.
