The Dubai Mall, a shopping and entertainment zone located downtown is made up of 1,200 stores, as of 2009, on an area of 1.12 million sq. m (12.1 million sq. ft.), of which 350,000 sq. m (3.8 million sq. ft) is leasable. High fashion occupies 32,500 sq. m (350,000 sq. ft.); mid fashion 46,500 sq. m (500,000 sq. ft.); beauty, hair products and services 3,700 sq. m (40,000 sq. ft.), and bridal wear, 500 sq. m (5,400 sq. ft).
The Mall’s anchor stores include brand names like the France-based Galeries Lafayette, US-based Bloomingdale’s, the Singapore-based Kinokuniya Books, the UAE-based Paris Gallery and the UK-based Waitrose supermarket. The Mall also includes a 25,000 sq. m (270,000 sq. ft.) gold souk, with 220 gold and jewelry retailers.
Dubai Mall also features entertainment facilities for children, an aquarium and underwater zoo, cinemas, musical water fountains and an Olympic sized ice-skating rink.
