Wana, formerly known as Maroc Connect, was established in 1999 by Moroccan giants, Groupe ONAGroupe ONA (51%) and Société Nationale d'InvestissementSociété Nationale d'Investissement (49%). The company won the license to operate the third mobile, third fixed line and Internet networks in Morocco, in 2005 for MAD 444 million (USD53.31 million). Competitors Maroc TelecomMaroc Telecom and MeditelMeditel also received 3G licenses.

Wana launched its fixed line and Internet service, Bayn, attracting 400,000 fixed line subscribers by April 2007. Wana deploys CDMA technology for its services and expects to launch its mobile operations by end of 2007.
