 Business Overview
The European Investment Bank is one of the main aid organizations supporting infrastructure projects in the Middle East. In 2002, lending to 12 countries in the Mediterranean reached a record EUR 1.8 billion, which included financing of a natural gas liquefaction plant in Egypt and construction of private-sector cement plants in Tunisia and Algeria. The scale of EIB's involvement in the MENA region has led to the opening of three branches in Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia. the first such office outside the European Union.
