Atheer Telecommunications Iraq Limited

Zain Iraq, also known as Atheer Telecommunications, manages and operates a GSM mobile telecommunications network, domestically.

The company was established as MTC Atheer, by a consortium of the Kuwait-based Zain GroupZain Group and Kharafi NationalKharafi National, which jointly claimed 50% of the company, while the Iraq-based Digla Telecommunications claimed the rest. Zain GroupZain Group merged Iraqna Company for Mobile Phone Services in 2008, to create Atheer Telecommunications Iraq and re-branded the company as Zain Iraq.

Zain Iraq increased subscribers by 17.27% to 12 million in 2010, accounting for 32% of the group’s total customer base; it also increased revenues by 11.71% to IQD1.7 trillion (USD1.5 billion) and grew its net profits by 11.3% to IQD371 billion (USD320 million).
