MTC Vodafone Bahrain (Zain Bahrain) manages and operates a GSM mobile telecommunications network, domestically.
Established in December 2003, Zain Bahrain was the country’s second mobile operator, after it broke Bahrain Telecommunications Company’s monopoly. The company is majority owned by a consortium of the Kuwait-based Mobile Telecommunications Company, Vodafone Group and other Bahraini institutional and individual investors.
Zain Bahrain subscribers decreased by 3.5% to 662,000, annually, in 2009. The company increased its annual 2009 revenues by 15.33%, to BHD98 million (USD259 million) and increased its annual net profits by 30.84%, to BHD28 million (USD73.5 million).
