Hamad Medical Corporation

The Qatar-based Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) owns and operates hospitals, medical centers and clinics, domestically.

Of the six hospitals the corporation owns and operates, as of 2011, four are specialized: the psychiatric hospital; Hamad General Hospital, with 621 beds for in-patient care and an out-patient department providing 65 specialty clinics; Women’s Hospital with 334 beds; and Rumailah Hospital, one of Qatar’s oldest general medical facilities, established in 1956 with 200 beds. With the launch of Hamad General, the Rumailah facility was repurposed as a rehabilitation center with 306 beds.

In addition, HMC owns and operates the Pediatric Clinic, the New Dialysis Center and Hamad Medical City, which will integrate hospitals, clinics and other facilities, when completed in 2012.

HMC signed an agreement with the Canada-based Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) to develop the first pediatric hospital in Qatar, to open in 2012. The 4,180 sq. m (45,000 sq. ft.) hospital will be located in Hamad Medical City, and will have a capacity of 217 beds.
