Electricity Exports at 5.5b kWh

Iran has exported more than 5.5 billion kWh of electricity to its neighboring countries in the past Iranian year (started March 20).
Iran's Energy Ministry said in a statement on Monday that new data shows a 180 percent growth in electricity exports compared with corresponding figures in the previous year, IRNA reported.
On Sunday, Iranian Energy Minister Majid Namjou said Iran's electricity network has integrated into power grids of seven neighboring countries including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.
He further pointed out that Iran also plans to connect its national power network to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Russia, India, Qatar, the UAE, Jordan, Syria and Oman are the new countries that have asked Iran for electricity.
According to Namjou, the Islamic Republic has the capability to turn into a regional electricity hub. The minister also stated that Iran has attracted more that $1.1 billion in investment to build three new power plants.
"Germany has invested $445 million in construction of the Pareh-Sar combined cycle power plant, while the UAE has invested $720 million in construction of the Esfahan gas power plant and the Fars combined cycle power plant," Namjou concluded. According to a recently released market study, Iran will account for 17.08 percent of Middle East and Africa regional power generation by 2014.
Gas was the dominant fuel in Iran in 2009, accounting for an estimated 56.8 percent of primary energy demand (PED), followed by oil at 40.8 percent and hydro with a 1.4 percent share of PED.
