launched a new innovative initiative to support the teaching and learning process and enrich the faculty and learners experience; graduates of the new program which aims to improve the performance of e-University faculty will get a certificate in online instruction by the end of the program. Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, HBMeU Chancellor said: "This initiative is in alignment with HBMeU strategic objective to develop faculty and staff skills and competencies; particularly in relation to e-learning; the Certificate in Online Instruction which blends both pedagogical and technical aspects of e-learning is developed for the purpose of ensuring that faculty and academic staff have the necessary skills and expertise to become effective online faculty members."
He added: "We live in an era of knowledge and communication revolution, so new generations of learners are in need for a faculty member that has advanced potentials and qualifications in line with developments taking place globally in the field of higher education and research; old means of learning, teaching and training are no longer able to meet the needs of generations and communities of the 21st century;"
"The new faculty development program undertaken by the e-University represents a great addition to the e-University's set of programs established to promote quality and efficiency of the performance of faculty members;" Dr. Mansoor concluded.
Running over a period of six months, the program consists of a set of core and elective modules; the core module covers aspects related to e-learning and e-tutoring fundamentals, content design for e-pedagogies; e-assessment and evaluation; social & communicative tools in the virtual learning environment and education technologies within the university. As for the elective modules, two streams were designed: one offering further in depth information in the area of teaching and learning, including dealing with learning styles and learners motivation, educational gaming and multimedia, reusable learning objects, etc and the other stream addressing the needs of e-learning managers and admininstrors covering topic related to Intellectual property and copyrights, e-Learning planning, budgeting and return on investment and innovation and change management in online education.
The program will bring on board experts from various parts of the world in addition to internal staff from within the university and will be delivered using a hybrid model which combines face to face session, online collaboration using both synchronous and asynchronous collaboration tools and self paced learning. The new program already started with the first training session which was attended by most of the university faculty and senior academic administrators.
