Plans to establish 60 new parks in Jeddah
- Text size
JEDDAH: Newly appointed Jeddah Mayor Hani Abu Ras on Wednesday announced his department's plan to establish 60 new parks in different parts of the city next year. He said work on many of them would be completed this year.
"We have already opened 37 new parks in Jeddah's northern, eastern and central districts," said Aburas. He opened three new parks in Zahra, Raihan and Khozama in Zahra districts.
"We understand the role and importance of parks for the public. They add to the beauty of the city and increase recreational facilities for people," he said, adding that 50 new parks would be opened by the end of this year. The mayor urged the residents of Jeddah to protect the parks. "The government has spent a large amount of money to construct these parks for the public benefit. It is our duty to protect them," he said.
Bahjat Hamwa, director of gardens and plantations, said the three parks opened by the mayor were established as part of a plan to set up 100 parks in 100 weeks. The three parks are spread over an area of 2,213 square meters in Zahra, 3,496 square meters in Raihan and 2,294 square meters in Khozama.
"We have taken into consideration the needs of the handicapped when designing the new parks. We have also allocated parking areas for them," Hamwa said. Last year the mayoralty allocated SR15 million for parks.
