SP Gas Production Will Rise

Iran will overtake Qatar in gas exploitation in the shared South Pars gas field in five years, withdrawing 1.1 billion cubic meters of gas per day by the end of Iran's fifth five-year economic plan (2010 - 2015), Oil Ministry announced.
Speaking at the launching ceremony of a 907-kilometers gas pipeline (aimed at pumping Iran's natural gas into Pakistan) in Iranshahr, Sistan-Baluchestan province, southeast of Iran, Oil Minister Masoud Mirkazemi expressed hope that the seventh Iran's gas trunk line (IGAT-7) could compensate the delay in supplying gas to the east of the country in the near future, Shana reported.
Based on the ministry's planning, IGAT-7 will supply Sistan-Baluchestan, Pakistan, and other demanding countries with 50 and 60 million cubic meter of gas per day, respectively. Noting that 93 percent of urban residents and 35 percent of the rural population are benefiting from natural gas, Mirkazemi stated that gas pipeline network has expanded from 83,000 kilometers in 2004 to 177,000 kilometers this year.
The seventh Iran's gas trunk line (IGAT-7) was launched Monday at the presence of the first vice president, Mohammad Reza Rahimi.
By launching the 907- kilometers gas trunk line, gas supply to Iranshahr, as the first city in the province of Sistan and Baluchstan, started.
Iran has the world's second largest natural gas reserves after Russia, around 15 percent of the world's total proven reserves. The reserves contain an estimated 974 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
Iran hopes to double gas production within five years through the South Pars fields and emerge as a major gas exporter.
Meanwhile, deputy oil minister for planning and supervision on hydrocarbon resources said the results of studies on the county's hydrocarbon resources will be registered in the Hydrocarbon Statistic Book at the end of this year noting, the results also will be presented to the related international organizations.
Mohsen Khojastemehr added Iran presents its oil and gas reserves statistics to the related organizations such as OPEC.
He noted that our country's hydrocarbon resources have been under study based on new explorations, finding new oil and gas wells and the methods relating to the secondary reserves of the wells.
Emphasizing that studying hydrocarbon resources is underway by the petroleum ministry, the official said current volume of the Iran's hydrocarbon resources has been published officially in the past and after the completion of the current studies new figures will be announced in case of any change.
Based on the latest official figures published by the ministry of petroleum in 2008, Iran's recoverable oil reserves stand at 137.620 billion barrels and recoverable gas reserves at 29.610 trillion cubic meters.
