Khalifa University signs MOU with General Headquarters of Armed Forces

Abu Dhabi, 11 March 2010: Khalifa University of Science, Technology, and ResearchKhalifa University of Science, Technology, and Research
(KUSTARKUSTAR
) signed a memorandum of understanding with the UAE's General Headquarters of Armed Forces (GHQ) on cooperation in the scientific, technical and research fields.The agreement was signed by Dr. Mohammed Al Mualla, Interim Provost at KUSTARKUSTAR
and His Excellency Major General Jumaa' Ali Khalaf Al Humairi, Chief of Administration and Manpower at GHQ.
The MOU takes into consideration the importance of developing the scientific, technical and research capabilities for each party, essentially benefitting the sectors themselves. KUSTARKUSTAR
will support the Armed Forces with skilled university graduates and provide academic support and research for future scientific cooperation. The MOU will allow joint cooperation in research and development in areas of scientific and technical studies, exchange in the field of training and professional development, and the organization of conferences, seminars or workshops. Also, there will be plans to implement Continuing Education courses in specialized areas of Engineering, Medical and Homeland security, in addition to cooperation in other areas that promote the development of plans and strategies for both parties.
Dr. Mohammad Al Mualla, Interim Provost and Abu Dhabi Campus Manager at Khalifa University said: "At Khalifa University, we are committed to building strategic partnerships and launching initiatives that contribute to the development of the higher education and scientific research sector in the country. We're delighted to sign this agreement with the UAE's GHQ, as it signifies the mutual interest we have to further strengthen the capabilities of our nation's students and future leaders."
H.E Major General Jumaa' Ali Khalaf Humairi emphasized the importance of the agreement which comes at a time when the Armed Forces are further upgrading their human capital. The MOU will provide with the latest knowledge, science, technical, and scientific methodologies that will further improve their performance in accordance with the strategic plans set by the General Commander of the Armed Forces.
The signing of the MOU was attended by Eng. Hussain Al Hammadi, a member of the Board of Trustees at KUSTARKUSTAR
and by H.E. Brigadier Matar Salem, Director of Virtual Academic Leadership of the Armed Forces, as well as a number of senior officers from the Armed Forces.

Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (KUSTASR) was established in February 2007 by a decree issued by the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
KUSTARKUSTAR
's main campus is located in Abu Dhabi, while it operates with another campus in Sharjah, and presently offers bachelor degrees in Computer, Telecommunication and Electronic Engineering, Master's and Doctorate degree programs in Computer, Telecommunication and Electronic Engineering, in addition to the Master's degree in Information Security. In the future, KUSTARKUSTAR
will also offer degrees in disciplines such as Engineering, Logistics and Management, Life Sciences and Homeland Security. KUSTARKUSTAR
is open to men and women from all nationalities with particular emphasis being placed on educating young UAE nationals.
An international Centre for Research & Development is being developed to ensure that research is an integral part of the university.
