MUSCAT: Subscribers of the fixed phone service offered by OmantelOmantel
in the Sultanate stood at 257,134 at the end of December 2009, against 267,475 in 2008, constituting a 3.9 per cent decline. Statistics issued by the Ministry of National Economy have shown that subscribers of billed fixed phone service in the Sultanate stood at 209,246 at the end of December 2009, against 220,169 subscribers in 2008.
Subscribers of pre-paid fixed phone service (Sahl) stood at 47,888 against 47,306 in 2008. The number of public phones all over the Sultanate stood at 6,805 compared to 6,703 during 2008.
The statistics also pointed out that the number of fixed telephone lines subscribers in the Muscat governorate stood at 135,753 at the end of December 2009, followed by the Al Batinah region at 40,131, Al Dakhiliyah region 22,887, Dhofar governorate 20,686, Al Sharqiyah region 19,111, Al Dhahirah region 9,157, Buriami governorate 5,780, Musandam governorate 3,294 and Al Wusta region 335.

) reached 3,964,666, compared to 3,219,349 by the end of 2008, constituting a 23.2 per cent rise. Subscribers of billed GSM service stood at 358,744 at the end of December 2009, against 324,812 in 2008, constituting a 10.4 per cent rise. Subscribers of pre-paid GSM service rose by 24.6 per cent to 3,605,922, against 2,894,537 during 2008.
Subscribers of Internet service provided by OmantelOmantel
stood at 78,135 at the end of December 2009, compared to 80,167 persons during 2008, constituting a 2.5 per cent decline. The number of Internet phone service subscribers stood at 77,722 as at the end of December 2009 compared to 79,819 during 2008, constituting a 2.6 per cent decline. The number of subscribers to post paid Internet phone service amounted to 19,139 and the pre-paid card stood at 17,220. The number of 'Abhar' service subscribers stood at 662 subscribers whereas the number of power net service subscribers amounted to 40,701.
The number of leased internet lines subscribers stood at 413 as at the end of December 2009, compared to 348 in 2008, a growth by 18.7 per cent.
